Protect + Preserve

Our fun form of recreation activities always includes the stunning backdrop of Mother Nature along with the adventure of outdoor play. Our tours also include vibrant interpretation of the natural and cultural history of what is our collective backyard.

Our guides share meaningful insights of nature to ultimately inspire a sense of appreciation for natural systems which in turn provokes protection for these wild spaces.

Get involved

In addition to educating our guests on the importance of sustainability and preserving these special places, Wanderlust coordinates numerous Volunteer Clean Up events throughout the year. We also have Group Voluntoursim Opportunities - perfect for staff offsites, team-building, and corporate retreats. Contact info@WanderlustTours.com for more information.

Paddling

Canoe+at+Elk+Lake.jpg

Paddling canoes and kayaks on our tours mimics the original form of North American travel beyond one’s own two feet! Native Americans modeled this mode of transport and we so love the Americana associated with paddling! Today, rather than sinking our boats after use to preserve them for future use, we clean them after every trip to ensure our waters stay clean and free of invasive species.

ECO-FRIENDLY SUNSCREEN

Let's keep our lakes and waterways clean! Did you know most sunscreens contain chemicals that are not only harmful to humans, but to our water systems as well?

When you recreate on water, please be especially careful to NOT use sunscreens that contain these ingredients: Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Octocrylene, Homosalate, Avobenzone, 4-methylbenzylidene camphor, Para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), Parabens, Triclosan

Badger Balm Sunscreen (SPF 40) available for purchase in our office.

Caving

Our local caves have seen varied use over the years by Native Americans and Euro-Americans. From shelter to ice collection to exploration human use has always affected the caves. Current culture, for some crazy reason, includes marring our caves with sprayed graffiti. Wanderlust partners with the High Desert Grotto to sustainably sandblast graffiti away as well as our yearly cave clean ups, picking up trash for everyone’s enhanced cave experience. We so enjoy when volunteers from the public join us on our clean-up efforts!

Hiking

Leave No Trace - while long been a mantra of seasoned outdoors people, many people do not grow up with this ethic taught to them. One of Wanderlust’s roles is to help our clients understand how to sustainably visit the natural world. Hiking some of our trails allows us a platform to share nature’s wonders and in so doing we hope to establish understanding, appreciation and subsequently protection of the gifts nature bestows upon us.

Libations

Our amazing partners of our craft libations tours are able to produce outstanding product because of our water quality in the Bend area. The fun of tasting artisan concoctions would not be as readily available were it not for the incredible hydrologic cycle our local geology enables. Our tours include sharing the importance of water as our most precious resource on earth! We trust this translates to everyone’s sustaining this finite gift of water- for our lives and sipping suds!
