Crater Lake
The Gem of Oregon
Oregon’s only National Park!  Enjoy professional interpretation from start to finish of this magnificent journey.  Our exploration of Crater Lake commences at the Pumice Desert, a remnant of Mt. Mazama’s tremendous blast. We’ll next ascend the north flank of the volcano and arrive on the rim for incredible views down to Crater Lake. Several stops on the rim will offer great vantage points while our guide unfurls the geologic history.

Wanderlust Tours will arrange lunch at the spectacular and historic lodge at Rim Village. We will travel the rest of the rim before heading back into the Bend - Sunriver area. Tour length - 8 hours

Lava Lands / Benham Falls plus the High Desert Museum

Tremendous volcanic outbursts, many witnessed by early Native Americans, have given shape and drama to our stunning area.

Trek around the top of Lava Butte for vistas of Oregon’s backbone, the Cascade Range and 10 square miles of lava below. At the lava field’s edge rages Benham Falls. The placid Deschutes River turns torrid, yet the serenity of aspen groves along this gentle hike has a calming effect.

Next we’ll visit the riches of culture found at the acclaimed High Desert Museum. The museum is an unexpected treasure of natural and cultural history. Your guide will help reveal insights to the museum’s incredible displays with a 40-minute docent tour of the Spirit of the West. Tour length - Full day (6 hours) or Half day (3 and 1/2 hours)

Cascade Lakes Highway
Tour the spectacular Cascade Lakes Highway.
We’ll first stop at Todd Lake for a short walk to capture one of the best vistas of Broken Top mountain. We’ll continue on to Sparks Lake for a one-mile nature walk around the lake and through lava flows. Glaciers spilling off 10,000-foot peaks, water lapping at our feet and the smell of fir will fill our senses.

At this point we could stop for lunch on the shores of rippling Elk Lake or we can head home making a stop to view a terrific remnant of a past culture, ancient Native American pictographs. Tour length - 3.5 - 5 hours depending on our lunch stop.

“Our tour guide made you feel like you’re hanging out with a friend in her backyard, who’d planted all the varieties of trees you can see and can tell you whatever you want to know about them. Like a caretaker of the land we’re traveling through.  Fantastic!”
